Dr. Bill V. Way Scholarship Endowment

To pay tribute to Bill V. Way, DO, FAOCD, the Endowment was established in 2025 by Rick Lin, DO, MPH, FAOCD, to honor the lifetime achievements of 2025 by Rick Lin, DO, MPH, FAOCD, to honor the lifetime achievements of Dr. Bill V. Way, a board-certified dermatologist and master clinician. A proud Texan, Dr. Way dedicated over 40 years of service to the Duncanville community. As a Dermatology Residency Program Director, he mentored and trained numerous dermatologists, including many graduates of TCOM. His leadership extended nationally as past president of both the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology (AOCD) and the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA). A pioneering researcher in the application of bacteriophages in dermatology, Dr. Way is recognized as a Fellow of Distinction of the AOCD and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD). A lifelong learner and pillar of osteopathic dermatology, his career embodies excellence, compassion, and dedication to education. This scholarship supports students who aspire to become future dermatologists and continue Dr. Way’s legacy of advancing osteopathic dermatology through scholarship, service, and leadership. This endowment provides an annual scholarship to support medical students with a demonstrated interest in dermatology.

Criteria:

  • Recipient must be enrolled full-time in UNT Health’s Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (TCOM), and first preference will be provided for an out-of-state student.
  • Recipient must state their career goals in a personal statement, and preference will be provided for a student interested in dermatology.
  • Recipient must provide their participation in research, clinical experiences, student interest groups, or community activities.
  • Recipient must maintain the above requirements to receive the scholarship for spring semester. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.*
