Dr. William R. Boone, Jr. and Kyoko Nakamizo Scholars Program (Class of 2029)
This scholarship program recognizes the contributions of William R. Boone, Jr., DO, and his wife Kyoko Nakamizo. Dr. Boone, a TCOM alumnus from the class of 1983, is a dedicated and compassionate family physician who served patients in East Dallas, Texas including the communities of Mesquite, Sunnyvale, and Rowlett for decades until his retirement. This scholarship program will support TCOM students who are committed to careers in Family Medicine, possess a passion for the whole health model of care, and seek to integrate osteopathic principles into their practices. Recipients of the scholarships will be known as the Boone-Nakamizo Family Practice Scholars. Each scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $5,000 per student per year so long as the applicable student remains in good academic standing with the Health Science Center.
Eligibility Criteria
- Recipients of the scholarships must be accepted and enrolled as medical students in TCOM.
- Recipients must be in TCOM Class of 2029.
- Recipients of the scholarships must have an interest in pursuing a residency and future practice in Family Medicine or in a primary care field.
- Priority will be provided to students who intend to practice in underserved areas.
- Priority will be provided to students who plan to incorporate osteopathic medicine principles within their future practice.
- Priority will be provided to students who support and encourage the whole health model of care, incorporating the care of patients’ bodies, minds, and souls.
Recipient must maintain the above requirements to receive the scholarship for spring semester. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.
