Dale H. Brancel D.O. Endowed Scholarship

The Dale H. Brancel, D.O. Endowment Scholarship was established in 2023 in memory of Dr. Brancel by his wife and children to carry on his legacy and passion for medicine and teaching.

Dr. Dale Brancel was born in San Angelo, TX, Dale, a very proud Eagle Scout, attended Angelo State University where he met the love of his life, Susan. He pursued his dream of becoming a surgeon and subsequently graduated from Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, where 35 years later, he would become an assistant professor and the Clinical Director of Residents at Medical City North Hills. Dale completed his residency and internship at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, OH, where he created lifelong friendships, after which he became Board Certified in 1988 and became a Fellow with the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons in 1994. The family relocated to Colleyville, TX from OH where he established a nearly 40-year practice saving thousands of lives and having an immeasurable impact on tens of thousands more. While maintaining a successful practice, Dale, served in several Clinical Instructor of Surgery positions as well as on several Boards and Chief of Staff positions for hospitals, TCOM, and ACOS. During Dale’s time as a physician, one of his proudest accomplishments was mentoring medical students. He was a natural and gifted teacher, who profoundly impacted countless lives. In 2007, Dale received the Presidential Citation by the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons, followed by the Distinguished Surgeon award in 2013. In early 2022, Medical City North Hills awarded him the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Pursuing a degree in Osteopathic Medicine
  • Must be a third-year or fourth-year TCOM student
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must demonstrate a desire to practice in general surgery
  • Must meet federal guidelines for financial need. Applicants must complete the entire FAFSA process by May 1st.

Recipient must maintain the above requirements to receive the scholarship for spring semester. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.
