Elena & Thomas Yorio Endowed Scholarship for First Year Students

The Elena & Thomas Yorio Endowed Scholarship for First Year Students was established in 2008 by the UNTHSC School of Biomedical Sciences to support first-year School of Biomedical Sciences students who show leadership experience and potential, a personal commitment to a college education, and research and personal integrity. The award was named to honor the contributions to the success of SBS by founding dean, Dr. Thomas Yorio, and his wife, Elena, who, throughout the years, have made outstanding contributions and a tremendous impression on the campus and students.

Eligibility Criteria

• Must be a First-Year UNTHSC student
• Pursuing a Master of Science degree or a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Biomedical Sciences
• Must be in good academic standing
• Must answer the supplemental question -
  Describe why you deserve this scholarship.
  Provide name and email address for a recommendation from a faculty or staff member, mentor, community member, or a current or past employer.

Recipient must maintain the above requirements to receive the scholarship for subsequent semesters. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.
