Dr. Gil B. Scarnati Endowed Scholarship

The Dr. Gil B. Scarnati Endowed Scholarship was establised in 2011 by the estate of alumnus, Dr. Gil Scarnati, DO (’90) to support TCOM students pursuing their degree in Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Scarnati earned the first Dean’s Award for Humanitarian Service presented by the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine which recognizes TCOM alumni who distinguish themselves through outstanding personal and professional achievements and humanitarian service. As a practicing primary care physician, Scarnati treated HIV/AIDS patients in Dallas and also conducted several HIV-related research projects and drug trials in an ongoing effort to promote the best possible quality of life for his patients.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Pursuing a degree in Osteopathic Medicine
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must have a physical disability and be registered with the Center for Academic Performance – A physical impairment is defined by ADA as "any physiological disorder or condition, cosmetic disfigurement, or anatomical loss affecting one or more of the following body systems: neurological, musculoskeletal, special sense organs, respiratory (including speech organs), cardiovascular, reproductive, digestive, genitourinary, hemic and lymphatic, skin, and endocrine
  • Must meet federal guidelines for financial need. Applicants must complete the entire FAFSA process by May 1st.

Recipient must maintain the above requirements to receive the scholarship for spring semester. Failure to do so could result in a loss of scholarship benefits.
