The Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians, Inc. (DSWOP) established the DSWOP Joseph L. LaManna DO Endowed Scholarship to honor Dr. Joseph L. LaManna’s extraordinary legacy of service to the Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians, Inc. and the osteopathic profession. The purpose of this scholarship is to support and provide scholarships for 2nd year TCOM students who have demonstrated personal integrity, leadership potential, dedication and commitment to community service, are on a career path for family practice. Dr. LaManna began family practice in the Oak Cliff section of Dallas the very first day he arrived in 1951. In January 2001 he announced his retirement after 50 years of service. During the 50 years, he touched thousands of lives, including hundreds of young physicians he mentored and counseled. He is recognized as a compassionate physician, he is also highly respected as one who cares deeply for his community. According to the Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians, Inc., he has done more to raise the awareness of Osteopathic Medicine in Dallas in the last 50 years than any other physician in the city. The Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians, Inc are providing the funding for this scholarship in Dr. LaManna’s honor.
